How to play Live Baccarat

Whether you are new to the game of Baccarat, or else an experienced player, having a basic strategy in place should prove beneficial for you. Not only will we be teaching you the basics of one of the live casino’s most thrilling games, but you will also understand how to play and how to place Baccarat bets that help you win.

You don’t have to be James Bond to find yourself at the Baccarat table. The game is so easy to learn that you can easily change from Beginner to Experienced Player after one session.

In a standard game of Baccarat, the dealer uses between six and eight decks of cards. The game kicks off with two hands being dealt out on the Baccarat table: The Banker’s Hand and the Player’s Hand. Unlike other games, you don’t have to limit yourself to playing the Player’s hand, and it does not mean that you will win every time the Player’s hand wins.

Once the croupier has placed two cards on each side of the table, you need to calculate the points and to determine the value of each hand.

Tens, as well as face cards, count as zero. The other cards are worth their face value. To further clarify, an Ace is counted as one point. If your total hand value is a two-digit number, only the second digit is counted.

If the Player receives a 10 and a 7, then the total hand value is 7. If the Banker has a 9 and a 3, the total would be 12, but since only the second digit counts, it’s a two.

When you are looking to place a bet on either the Banker or the Player, there is one important rule to keep at the forefront. The hand that has a total sum of 8 or 9 is declared a winner. It is known as a Natural Win.

When this happens, no additional cards are dealt out, and winning bets are paid out.

Baccarat: When a third card is required

If no one has a natural win, the chances are that you will need an extra card on the table. The Player is the first to play, and if he stands on a total of 6 or 7, he might need one extra card. If the Player does not need the third card, and the Banker stays on a total of 6 or 7, then the Banker draws a third card.

Baccarat: The Rules of the Third Card

Just like in the game of Live Blackjack, some rules come into play when you are playing Live Baccarat.

  • If the Player has a 9, 10, a face-card or an Ace as a third card, then the Banker draws on a 0-3 but stays on a score of 4 to 7.
  • If the Player draws an 8 as a third card, then the Banker must draw on a score of 0 to 2 or stay on a score of 3 to 7
  • If the Player draws a 6 or a 7 as a third card, the Banker draws on a score between 0 and 6, and stays on a total sum of 7
  • If the Player draws either a 4 or a 5 as a third card, then the Banker draws on a score of 0 to 5 and stays on a total sum of 6 or 7
  • If the Player draws either a 2 or a 3 as a third card, then the Banker draws on a score between 0 and 4 and stays on a total hand value of 5 to 7

Once you have all the cards in hand, you need to count the points to determine the winner. Whoever gets the total hand value closest to nine points wins.

Baccarat: The Tie Bet

When both the Player and the Banker have the same amount of points, it results in a Tie. Bets are therefore returned, and only bets on the Tie are paid out.

Baccarat: The best bets in Live Baccarat

Now that you understand how to play the game of Baccarat, you need to have a strategy in place. A good strategy entails knowing how to place the best bets. Baccarat is the least of your problems when it comes to placing bets, as we always recommend that you bet on the Banker and we have good reasons why.

Since the house edge affects every casino game you play, the trick here lies in betting on the Banker to lower it. Although plenty of online casinos do apply a commission on the Banker bet, it is still undoubtedly the best bet in Baccarat out there.

House edge in Baccarat stands as follows:

  • A bet on the Player has a house edge of 1.24%
  • A bet on the Banker has a house edge of 1.06%
  • A bet on the Tie has a house edge of 14%

You have to be crazy or ridiculously brave to place a Tie bet, but hey there are players who still do. Just sit at the Baccarat table and put all your money on the Banker. Of course, as always, don’t forget to manage your bankroll, which should come part and parcel of your Baccarat strategy.
